Jake Hoot, as Chuck, delivers an equally compelling turn, his rich tenor voice matching the sincerity and innocence of his character in songs like “I’ll Wait for You” and reprises. Together, Bowen and Hoot have a remarkable onstage chemistry—their duets are a highlight, as well as the other instances of ensemble singing. The Black Box setting of the performance brought an intimate aspect for the audience that made them feel a part of the story of Pat’s medical distress.
